So what is this?

As some of you have guessed in the past week or so, it's a book. A new book.

A new book?

That's right. Like Lunch Eater.

Like Lunch Eater?

Well, maybe the book itself won't be like Lunch Eater. But I'll be writing it on here in real time like I did with Lunch Eater.

So there's gonna be a paywall then? Like last time? How you have the first 4 chapters away for free and then we had to pay to see the rest?

No. I don't like that model and given that time again, I wouldn't have done it that way. I'm hugely grateful for those subscribers that support The Author is Dumb but I also don't want to restrict it for those that can't pay.

If you are a paid subscriber, know that I value you support more than you'll understand and anyone who is a paid subscriber will get an ebook copy when it's published.

More than money, though, I would ask that you share the newsletter and the chapters widely.

So there's going to be a RAW version that you release at the end of this?

I loved doing that for Lunch Eater but I don't think I'll be doing it this time.

What's the book about?

That's not an easy question, even if I thought that authors knew what their books were about.

In my head, in the crystalline, perfect version that will never make it to the page, is a book about faith.

In reality, we'll see.

I've planned this one both more and less than Lunch Eater.

If you think of me as a comedy writer, this is likely to be my least funny book.

But it's also maybe my most autobiographical. But not in the “that guy always writes himself dialled up to 11” way. Rather, in the sum of my experiences and influences for way.

It might be my found footage book.

It's noisy. And then it's quiet. It will probably wear its influences to heavily on its sleeve. It might not work. If might be more than one book. It might, simply, not work.

I'm trying a new way of workflowing for it. Who knows how that will go.

I'll reserve the right to take breaks so I can review movies.
